A valid ATIP (Atypical Permission) or an Employment Permit is needed to be able to work in Ireland, if you are a non EAA/non Swiss national. The application has to be made to DETE, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment for an Employment permit.

Atypical Working Scheme

1. AWS permissions are granted normally more than once but can be granted on more than one occasion but this requires a person to leave State between permissions.
2. AWS is not transferable and family members are not allowed in this scheme.
3. AWS cannot be used as a bridging permission.

Candidates can apply through one of the following schemes

1. Atypical Working Scheme for specialized, high-skilled employment of short term nature, generally less than 90 days. Work for duration of greater than 90 days is only permitted under this scheme for following roles:
   • Non EEA crew member in the Irish fishing fleet
   • Doctor providing locum services in the Hospital Sector
   • Nurse seeking NMBI(Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
   • Paid internships where position is part of graduation studies in an accredited institution.
   • Fee - Euro 250 and application is to be submitted online. Fees is nonrefundable
2. Work for More than 90 days
   • Contract of EMployment
   • Application for Relevant Work Permission to DOJ, DETE or DFA
   • Permission granted MUST apply for Long Stay Visa (D) before traveling to Ireland

Work Permit Application by Irish Employer

1. Criticall Skills per Eligible Occupations List
2. General Worker - make sure employment not in Ineligible list of employment
3. Intra Company Transferee for working in Ireland due to transfer by employer.
4. Internship - Paid internship in Ireland for more than 90 days apply for Internship Employment Permit.
5. Scientific Researcher on a Hosting Agreement for a period of 3 months to 5 years to carry out a research project with an accredited research institution.
6. Working Holiday - young people can fund an extended holiday through temporary work. India is not on the list of eligible countries for this program. Once Work Permit is approved
   • Employee has to apply for work visa
   • Paid Interns have to apply for Internship Employment permit
   • Scientific Researcher has to apply for Employment (Scientific Researcher Visa)
