By Exceptional merit

  • Doctors with at least 10 years of experience holding membership of a reputable organization in their field and recognized scientific contribution
  • Inventors who have at least one patent approved by UAE Ministry of Economy
  • Scientists with at least ten years of experience and at least one prestigious international award or a research grant in the field.
  • Creative Talents and Deemed Innovators with international awards
  • Investors - after Residency Visa has been given to them

By Naturalization

Residency visa holders can also get Ciutizenship in the UAE regardless of ethnicity, besides ethnic Arabs..

By marriage

  • UAE national must get permission from court to marry a foreigner.
  • Said foreigner must have UAE residence visa, along with clean medical and criminal record.
  • One marrying party should not be twice as old as the other one.
  • Religion is not an issue; non muslim can marry in the UAE with mutual consent.
  • A foreign man marrying an Emirati woman will not be granted citizenship on this ground.
  • A foreign woman marrying an Emirati man may receive citizenship
    a. In 7 years if they have a child together
    b. In 10 years if they don’t have a child together.

By Descent - born on UAE soil and born

  • Arab settlers (long term) in the UAE - family of ethnic Arabs settled before 1925 and stayed until 1972.
  • From an Emirati father in the country or abroad
  • From an Emirati mother in the country abroad without legally established fatherhood - or with a stateless father.
  • From unknown parents in the country; citizenship seeker is a foundling.

Golden Visa holders are eligible for UAE citizenship in 30 years or after being nominated and approved by country’s rulers.

Dual citizenship is prohibilted in UAE, exceptional investors can keep other citizenships.
